When working rows 6-9, make sure the right side of the square is facing you (petals up). Otherwise the border will be worked wrong side up.
MATERIALS
Worsted weight acrylic yarn
(suggest: Caron's Simply Soft or Wintuk)
Colors: Rose and Green
H hook
DIRECTIONS:
Rnd 1: (right side) With rose yarn, ch 4; sl st to first ch to form ring.
Rnd 2: Ch 3 (counts as dc throughout); 15 dc in ring; sl st to top of ch 3 to join. (16 dc).
Rnd 3: Working in front loops only of previous round, ch 4; *(2 tr in next dc) 3 times; ch 4 #; sl st in next dc; ch 4. Repeat from * around, ending at #. Sl st in back loop of first dc. (4 petals).
Rnd 4: Working in the unused back loops of round 2, ch 3; dc in same st; 2 dc in each dc back loop around; sl st in front loop only of starting ch 3. (32 dc).
Rnd 5: Repeat rnd 3. (8 petals). Finish off rose yarn.
Rnd 6: Join green yarn with sl st to any dc back loop. Ch 3; dc in next 2 dc loops; ch 2; skip 1 loop; *dc in next 3 loops; ch 2; skip 1 loop.
Repeat from * around; sl st to top of ch 3 to join. (8 3-dc groups and 8 ch-2 loops).
Rnd 7: Sl st in next 2 dc and into next ch-2 loop. Ch 3, 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in same loop; ch 1; *3 dc in next ch-2 loop; ch 1#; 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in next ch-2 loop; ch 1. Repeat from * twice. End from * to #. Join with sl st to top of ch 3. (12 3-dc groups).
Rnd 8: Sl st in next 2 dc and into next ch-2 loop; ch 3, 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in same loop; ch 1; *(3 dc in next ch-1 loop; ch 1) twice#; 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in next ch-2 loop; ch 1. Repeat from * twice. End from * to #. Sl st to top of ch 3 to join. (16 3-dc groups).
Rnd 9: Sl st in next 2 dc and into next ch-2 loop; ch 3, 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in same loop; ch 1; *(3 dc in next ch-1 loop; ch 1) 3 times#; 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in next ch-2 loop; ch 1. Repeat from * twice. End from * to #. Sl st to top of ch 3. (20 3-dc groups). Finish off; weave in ends.
TURN THIS FLOWER INTO A POTHOLDER
Use cotton yarn. Instead of using a traditional granny square around the flower, eliminate the spaces by making it a solid block. Then make a second solid block without the flower for the back side.
