Knitting worsted yarn
Hook of your choice (G works fine).
Kitchen towel or hand towel and Fray Check(tm)
-OR- Finger tip towels
Cut kitchen towel or hand towel, and put Fray Check(tm) on cut edge (for strength as well). Or use finger tip towels and fold over top edge 1.5".
Row 1: Sc across top edge of towel. Ch 3, turn.
Note: For thicker towels, I use a yarn needle to create a hole for me to crochet into. That way no fibers are broken.
Row 2-3: *Dc 2 sts tog (dec made). Repeat from * across. Ch 3 turn.
Row 4: Dc in each st across. Ch 3 turn.
Row 5: Dc 2 sts tog (dec made). Dc in each st across to last two. Dc 2 sts tog. Ch 3 turn.
If number of stitches looks acceptable for a tab, continue. Otherwise, repeat Row 5 to desired width.
Row 6-11: Work even in dc. Ch 3, turn. For row 11, ch 4, turn.
Row 12: Tr in each st across. Ch 1 turn.
Row 13: Work sc dec over next 2 sts, sc in each st across to last two. Work dec. Finish off.
Finishing: Sew button on one or both sides around center of row 5.
