*JANICE'S QUICK AND CLASSY WASHCLOTH
An original design by Janice Soderberg (c) 1997

closeup portion(90k)
Model made by Shirley Guess 5/97
This is a 90K close up of a portion of Janice's washcloth. I used a finger weight variegated sock thread and a 3/2 cotton. At yarn stores, you can buy as much of the 3/2 cotton as you want or buy an entire spool through mail order.

PATTERN NOTES: Though these wash cloths are made with Cotton Rug Warp, they can be made with a variety of different fibers. For instance, two strands of Cotton #10, Cotton 4-ply yarn, or Southmaid cotton 8 would also work. You just need to adjust the hook size and the foundation row.

MATERIALS:
Cotton Rug Warp (8/2) in two colors [See Pattern Notes (above) for other yarn/thread choices]
"E" Aluminum Hook

DIRECTIONS:

With Color 1, Chain 48.

Foundation Row: Hdc in second chain from hook and in each chain across. Chain 2, turn.

Row 2: *Hdc in each of next 3 sts. Ch 1. Skip next stitch. Repeat from * across, ending with 3 hdc. Pull through New Color, Chain 2, turn.

Row 3: *Hdc in each of next 3 sts. Treble Spike Stitch in next stitch. Repeat from * across, ending with 3 hdc. Chain 2 turn.

Repeat Rows 2 and 3, changing colors every other row, until piece is square, or desired size. Fasten off.

Edging:

Row 1: Attach Color 1 to any hdc. Make hdc in each st around and 5 hdcs in each corner.

Row 2: Repeat Row 1. Fasten off.

Row 3: Attach Color 2 in any hdc. Make sc in each st around and 3 sc in each corner. Fasten off.
