This scrunchie has a nice ribbed texture that you can't see really well from the scan. Sorry.
Rnds 2 and 3 are both worked in stitches from rnd 1. When you work Rnd 3, it is easier to push the loops up towards you so that you can see the where to put your hook.
Sport weight yarn
Kreinik metallic blending filament (to coordinate with yarn)
Adult-sized coated hair rubberband
Rnd 1: Holding yarn and filament together throughout, join with a sl st to band. Ch 2. (Counts as first dc) Make 39 Dc around ring (total 40 sts). Sl st to beginning Ch 2 through back loop only.
Rnd 2: *Ch 3, skip 1 Dc, Sl st into front loop of next Dc. Ch 3, skip 1 Dc, Sl st into back loop of next Dc. Repeat from * around, alternating between front and back loops (total 20 Ch 3 loops).
Rnd 3: Note: You will be working with the stitches left unused from rnd 1. *Sl st into back loop of next unused Dc from rnd 1. Ch 3, Sl st into front loop of next unused Dc from rnd 2. Repeat from * around, finishing in front loop of Dc in which you began Rnd 3.
Variation # 1, Fuller Scrunchie: Make 60 stitches for Rnd 1 instead of 40.
Variation #2, Bi- Colored Scrunchie: Fasten off yarn at the end of Rnd 2 and join a different colored yarn to start Rnd 3.
Variation #3 Beaded Version: The number of beads you use should be half the number of Dcs in Rnd 1. Crochet the Beads into Rnd 3 as follows: Every time the pattern says Ch 3, instead Ch 1, pull up a bea thread beads on before starting scrunchie or if using two colors of yarn, prior to Rnd 3. d, Ch 2.
