*Water Bottle Holder

by Laura McCallum(c) 1998

Model crocheted by designer

Pattern tested, edited, and formatted by Vicky Linnel

Materials:
Lustersheen, 1 ball
Hook size E

Gauge:
After round 3 should measure 2 3/4"

Special Stitches:
bpdc (back post double crochet): YO, insert hook from front to back around the post of the stitch in the previous row, YO, pull up a loop, (YO, pull loop through 2 stitches on the hook) twice.

Notes:
Ch 5 counts as a (trc, ch 1)
The bottle I used was an Arrowhead 24 oz. sport bottle.

DIRECTIONS:

Ch 5, sl st in first ch to form ring.

Rnd 1: Ch 5; (trc, ch 1) 11 times in ring, join to 4th chain with slip stitch. (12 trc and 12 ch 1 spaces)

Rnd 2: Sl st in the next ch 1 space. Ch 5, trc in the same ch 1 space, ch 1. [(trc, ch1) twice in next ch1 space] around. Join to 4th chain of beginning ch 5 with a sl st. (24 trc)

Rnd 3: Ch 2 (counts as hdc). Hdc in each trc and chain around. Join to 2nd chain with sl st (48 hdc).

Note: Depending on size of bottle, you may need to adjust stitch height on round 3. It should come out the same size or slightly smaller than the bottom of your bottle.

Rnd 4: Ch 3, dc in back loop only of each hdc around, join with sl st. (48 dc)

Rnd 5: Ch 6, skip two dc, trc in next dc, (ch 2, skip 2 dc, trc in next dc) 14 times, ch 2, join to fourth chain of beginning ch 6 with sl st. (16 ch 2 spaces)

Rnd 6: ch 6, (trc in trc, ch 2) 14 times, join to 4th chain.

Rnds 7-14: Repeat row 6.

Note: Depending on the size of the bottle, you may need to add a row of dc.

Rnd 15: Ch 3, dc in next 2 chains, (dc in trc, dc in next 2 chains) around, join with slip stitch, (48 dc). Do not end off.

Strap:

Row 1: Ch 2, turn, bpdc in next 10 dc. (11 dc) (wrong side)

Rows 2-4: Ch 2, turn (does NOT count as a dc); dc in next stitch and across to last stitch. Leave last stitch unworked. (You are decreasing one dc on each end of each row.) (5 dc in row 4.)

Row 5: Ch 2 (counts as bpdc), turn, bpdc across. (5 bpdc)

Row 6: Ch 3 (counts as dc), turn, dc across. (5 dc)

Repeat rows 5 & 6 until strap is desired length, ending with row 6 and remembering that it will stretch when holding a full water bottle.

Next 3 rows: Ch 3 (counts as a dc), dc in same stitch; dc across to last stitch; 2 dc in last st. (You are increasing one dc on each end of each row.) (11 dc)

To attach strap:

Remove hook. On top row of body, skip 13 dc. Insert hook from outside to inside in 14th dc, pick up loop from strap and pull through. Sl st across going first through dc on body, and then through dc on strap. End off.
