*SHELL STITCH TIE

Size: 2 1/4 x 52 inches The shell tie is made with closed dc shells & uses Cotton #10.
It could be adapted for Lustersheen yarn for a softer tie.

Betsy's Pattern Enhancements:


MATERIALS:

Crochet cotton size 10: 200 yds. desired color
Steel crochet hook size 7
Two safety pins

GAUGE: 2 shells or 7 shell

Rows = 1 1/2 inches
Betsy says "My tie turned out narrower that this gauge."


Pattern Notes:


DIRECTIONS:

Row 1: Ch 20, sc in 2nd ch from hook {sk 2 ch, 5 dc in next ch, sk 2 ch] 3 times, turn.

Row 2: Ch 3, 2 dc in first sc, sk 2 st, sc in next dc {sk 2 st, 5 dc in next sc, sk 2 st, sc in next dc] 2 times, sk 2 st, 3 dc in next sc, turn.

Row 3: Ch 1, sc in first dc {sk 2 st, 5 dc in next sc, sk 2 st, sc in next dc] 3 times, turn.

Rep Rows 2-3 for pattern until piece measures 25 inches from beginning, ending with Row 3.

Row 4: Ch 3, make fill-in shell stitch over next 3 sts [fill-in shell over next 6 sts] 2 times, fill-in shell over last 3 sts, turn.

Row 5: Ch 3, make 9 dc evenly across Row, turn. (10)

Mark each side at base of Row 5 with safety pins.

Row 6: Ch 3, dc in each dc across, turn. Rep Row 6 until piece from safety pins measures 27 inches. Fasten off. Weave in loose end.
