PASTEL FLOWER POT COVER

Fits 4 1/2 inch diameter x 4 inch tall pot

The flower pot cover is made from four strands size 10 cotton held together for a pastel tweed look. Popcorn stitches adorn the top border. The cover also features blue ribbon trim and an optional plastic liner. My pot was smaller at the bottom than at the top.


MATERIALS:

Crochet cotton size 10: 100 yds each variegated pastels, pink, light blue, cream, or colors desired.
Aluminum crochet hook size F
One 4 1/2 inch diameter x 4 inch tall flower pot
One 7 inch x 8 inch (quart size) freezer bag, optional
24 inches 3/8-inch-wide blue satin ribbon
Sewing needle and matching thread
Several straight pins

GAUGE: 4 dc or 3 pattern rows = 1 inch


DIRECTIONS:

Notes: Popcorn stitch (pc): 5 dc in next dc, drop lp, insert hook in first dc, pull lp through tightly, ch 1.
Pattern is worked with one strand each color held together throughout.
Weave in loose ends as work progresses.

  • Rnd 1: With one strand each color cotton held together as one, ch 4, 11 dc in first ch, sl st in top of beg ch-3. (12)

  • Rnd 2: Ch 3 (first dc), dc in same st, 2 dc in each rem dc around, sl st in top of beg ch-3. (24)

  • Rnd 3: Ch 3 (first dc), 2 dc in next dc [dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc] around, sl st in top of beg ch-3. (36)

  • Rnd 4: Ch 1 [sc in 5 dc, 2 sc in next dc] 6 times, sl st in first sc. (42)

  • Rnd 14: Ch 3 (first dc), dc in next 2 dc, popcorn in next dc, [dc in 3 dc, popcorn in next dc] 13 times, sl st in first dc. (14 popcorn sts)

  • Rnd 15: Ch 1, sc in each dc and popcorn st around, sl st in first sc. (56)

  • Rnd 16: Ch 1, sc in each sc, sl st in first sc.

  • Rnd 17: Sl st in each sc around and in first sl st.

    Fasten off cotton after Rnd 17.

    LINING:

    Cut top off bag just below zipper and discard top. Fold bag downward to height of cover. Place liner inside cover and pin in place. Sew around top with needle and matching thread.

    TRIM:

    Weave ribbon through ch-1 sps on Rnd 12. Place pot in cover. Gather ribbon and tie ends in a bow.
