BONNET by Merryann Palmer Bonnet fits doll with 12.5 in. circumferance porcellin head.

Pattern adapted from one by Ann Parnell, published in Annie's Crochet Newsletter #73, page 35.


MATERIALS:
Steel Crochet hooks size 4 and 2.
Size 10 crochet cotton.
1/4 in. satin ribbon, 18 in, cut in half (2 - 9 pieces)


DIRECTIONS:

  • Rnd 1. With sz 4 hook, starting at center of crown, ch 4, sl st in first ch to form ring, ch 4 (dc, ch 1) 7 times in ring, join with sl st in third ch of ch 4 (8 ch sps made).

  • Rnd 2. Ch 3, V st (dc, ch2, dc) in 1st sp (dc in next st, V st in next ch sp) around, join with sl st in top of ch 3. (8 dc, 8 V st)

  • Rnd 3. Ch 4, 3 dc in ch sp of first v st, ch 1, skip next st on V st, (dc in next st, ch 1, 3 dc in ch sp of next V st, ch 1, skip next st on V st) around, join with sl st in third ch of ch 4. (32 dc)

  • Rnd 4. (Ch 3, 2 dc) in first st, ch 1, skip next st, V st in next st, ch 1, skip next st, (3 dc in next st, ch 1, skip next st, V st in next st, ch 1, skip next st) around, join with sl st in top of ch 3. (8 V sts, eight 3-dc groups)

  • Rnd 5. (Sl st, ch 4) in next st, 5 dc in ch sp of next V st, ch 1, (dc in center st of next 3-dc group, ch 1, 5 dc in ch sp of next V st, ch1) around, join with sl st in third ch of ch 4.

  • Rnd 6. (Ch 5, dc) in first st (counts as first V st), ch 1, skip next 2 sts, 3 dc in next st, ch 1, skip next 2 sts, (V st in next st, ch 1, skip next 2 sts, 3 dc in next st, ch 1, skip next 2 sts) around, join with sl st in third ch of ch 5.

  • Rnd 7. (2 sl sts, ch 3, 3 dc) in ch sp of first V st, ch 1, V st in center st of next 3-dc group, ch 1, (7 dc in ch sp of next V st, ch 1 , V st in center st of next 3-dc group, ch 1) around, ending with 3 dc in same ch sp as first ch 3, join with sl st in top of ch 3.

  • Rnd 8. (Ch 5, dc in first st, ch 1, 7 dc in ch sp of next V st, ch 1, (V st in center st of next 7-dc group, ch 1, 7 dc in ch sp of next V st) around, join with sl st in third ch of ch 5. (56 dc, 8 V st).

  • Row 9. Using size 2 hook, (sl st, ch 1, sc) in ch sp of first V st *cr st (skip next st, 2 dc in next st, ch 2, working around last 2 sts made, work 2 dc in skipped st), skip next 2 sts, sc in next st, skip next 2 sts, cr st, sc in ch sp of next V st; repeat from * 6 more times, leaving remaining sts unworked for neck edge. Turn (Front of row is right side of work - 14 cr sts)

  • Row 10. Beg half shell (ch 3, 2 dc in same st), sc in next ch sp (3-skip cr shell (skip next 3 sts, 2 dc in next st, ch 2, 2 dc in second skipped st), sc in next ch sp) across, ending with end half shell (3 dc) in sc, turn (13 cr shells, 2 half shells)

  • Row 11. Ch 1, sc in first st, 3-skip cr shell, (sc in next ch sp, 3-skip cr shell) across, ending with sc in third ch of ch 3. Turn (14 cr shells)

  • Row 12-17. Repeat rows 10 and 11 alternately.

  • Row 18. With size 4 hook, working in ends of rows and in unworked sts on rnd 9, evenly space 32 hdc around, join with sl st in first sc on row 19. Fasten off.

  • Attach ribbon to each front corner of bonnet. ####
