EVENING MITTS, 1947

In a shell pattern, these are mitts that don't cover the fingers--they just a loop around the thumb.


MATERIALS:

Metallic Corde, three 125-yd tubes for short length OR five tubes for elbow length
Steel crochet hook No. 1


DIRECTIONS:

Ch 45, join with sl st into ring, careful not to twist (chain must be long enough to pass comfortably over hand).

  • 1st Round: Ch 1, work sc in each ch. Join. Ch 2, turn.

  • 2nd Round: *Skip 2 sc, 5 dc in next st, skip 2 sc, sc in next st--shell made. Repeat from * ending with sc (7 shells), sc under turning ch. Ch 2, turn.

  • 3rd Round: *5 dc in next sc, sc in center of next shell. Repeat from * ending with sc in last shell, sc under turning ch. Ch 2, turn. Repeat 3rd Round until mitt is 6 inches. Ch 2, turn.

  • Next Round: Shell in next sc, sc in center of next shell, 3 dc in same place, sc in same place, shell in next sc--shell increased--continue around,increasing another shell on opposite side. Work 3 rnds even.

  • Next Round: Increase 2 shells as before. Work even until mitt is desired length. Fasten off.

  • Join thread at center of any shell on first rnd. Make 1-inch chain, sl st at center of next shell. Ch 1, turn. Sc in each ch of loop. Join and fasten off. #####
