Daisy Pineapple Runner, 1950 **NB

This is a rectangular runner, 15 by 40 inches in size made up of 2 inch diameter motifs.


MATERIALS:

6 Cord Mercentized Crochet Cotton Size 30
5 to 7 Balls
Size 10 Steel Crochet Hook

DIRECTIONS:

  • First motif: start at ctr ch12, join w/sl st to form ring

  • rnd 1: ch4, 31 tr in ring, sl st to 4th ch of ch4

  • rnd 2: sc in same pl as sl st, (ch5, sk 1 tr, sc in next tr, rep rnd, end w/ch2, dc in first sc

  • rnd 3: ch4, hold back on hk the last lp of ea tr make 2 tr in lp just formed, yo and draw thru all lps-cluster made, *ch7, make a 3 tr cl in next lp. rep rnd, join last ch7 to tip of first cl-16 clusters. break off.

  • 2nd motif: work as for first motif til 2nd rnd is done.

  • rnd 3: ch4, make 2 tr cl in lp just formed, ch3, sl st in corresp lp on first motif, ch3, make 3tr cl in next ch5 lp on 2nd motif, ch3, sl st in corresp lp on first motif; ch3, cl in next ch5 lp on 2nd motif and complete rnd as for first motif-not more joinings.

  • make 3 rows of 14 motifs, join motifs as 2nd motif was joined to 1st, leaving 2 lps free between joinings.

  • Fill in lace: ch1, tr tr in first free lp of motif-following any joining) tr tr in next free lp *long tr (6 times over hk) in join, (tr tr in next free lp) twice. rep rnd, sl st in first tr tr. break off.

  • Fill in all spaces in same manner.

  • Pineapple Border: first corner pineapple:w/rs facing, sk 3 free lps on any corner motif following joining, mark next lp. w/ws facing, atttach thread to ctr of marked lp, ch7, sc in next lp, ch4, turn

  • row 1: 10 tr in ch7 lp, tr where thread was attached, ch5, turn

  • row 2: sk first tr (tr in next tr, ch1)10 times, tr in top of ch4, ch6, turn

  • row 3: sk first tr (tr in next tr, ch2)10 times, sk 1 ch of turn ch, tr in next ch, ch5, turn

  • row 4: sc in next ch2 sp (ch5, sc in next sp)10 times, ch 5, turn

  • row 5: sc in next lp (ch5, sc in next lp) 9 times, ch5, turn

  • row 6: sc in next lp (ch5, sc in next lp) 8 times, ch5, turn

  • row 7: sc in next lp (ch5, sc in next lp) 7 times, ch, turn. cont in this manner have 1 lp less on each row til row ends with sc in next lp, ch5, sc in next lp, ch5, turn

  • next row: sk 1ch of next lp, sc in next ch, ch5, sk 1 ch, sc in next ch of same lp. break off

  • 2nd corner pineappple: w/rs facing, sk next lp on same motif, make next lp. w/ws facing attach thread to marked lp, ch7, sc in next lp, ch4, sl st in last tr of 1st row of prev pine, turn

  • row 1: 6 tr in ch7 lp, tr where thread was attached, ch5, turn

  • row 2: sk first tr (tr in next tr, ch1) 6 times, tr in top of turn ch below, sl st in corrresp st of prev pine, ch4, sl st in next lp of prev pine, turn

  • row 3: ch2, sk next tr (tr in next tr, ch2) 6 times, sk 1 ch, tr in next ch, ch5, turn

  • row 4: sc in next ch2 sp, (ch5, sc in next sp) 6 times, ch2 sl st in 2nd turn ch5 lp on prev pine, ch2, turn

  • row 5: sc in next lp (ch5, sc in next lp) 6 times, ch5, turn

  • row 6: sc in next lp (ch5, sc in next lp) 5 times, ch5, turn. cont in this manner, have 1 lp less on each row and complete pine exactly as for 1st corner pine. break off

  • 3rd corner pineapple: w/rs facing skip next lp of same motif, mark next lp. w/ws facing attach thread to marked lp, ch7, sc in next lp, ch4, sl st in adj st of 2nd corner pine, turn

  • row 1: 10 tr in lp, tr where thread was attached, ch5, turn. complete as for 1st corner pine, join to corresp w/prev join

  • 1st side pineapple: w/rs facing, skip 3 free lp so next motif, mark next lp. w/ws facing attach thread to marked lp, ch7, sc in next lp, ch4, turn

  • row 1: 10 tr in lp, tr where thread was attached, ch5, turn and complete as for 1st corner pine, join 2 turn ch lps of this pine to corresp lps of adj pinepple as before.

  • make side pine on ea motif, join as before. cont in this manner all rnd, making 3 corner pineapples on ea corner motif and take care to join last pine. on both sides

  • Edging: 1st rnd:attach thread to first free lp on first corner pine, ch4, hold back on hk the last lp of ea tr, make 2tr in same lp, yo and draw thru all lps-cl made, (ch7, make 3tr cl in next free lp) twice (ch7, in next ch5 lp make cl, ch7 and cl) twice, (ch7, cl in next lp) 3 times,, cl in next free lp of next pine, ch7, cl in next lp (ch7, in next lp make cl, ch7 and cl) twice, (ch7, cl in next lp) twice, *cl in next free lp on next pine, (ch7, cl in next free lp)twice, (ch7, in next free lp make cl, ch7 and cl) twice, (ch7, cl in next free lp) 3 times. rep from *around work over corner pineapples as before, join last cl w/sl st to tip of first cl.

  • rnd 2: sl st to ctr of next lp *ch7, sc in next lp, rep rnd cornr, end w/sc in lp preceding last 2 cl of 3rd corner pine, ** ch3, tr in next 2 lps, ch3, sc in next lp, (ch7, sc in next lp) 6 times. rep from **rnd, work over corner pine as before and end w/ch3, tr in last ch7 lp, sl st in ctr of first lp

  • rnd 3: (ch9, sc in next lp) 22 times, *ch3, tr in next 2tr, ch3, sc in next ch7 lp, (ch9, sc in next lp) 5 times. rep rnd work over corn as before and end w/ch3, tr in last tr, sl st in ctr of first lp

  • rnd 4: ch5, sc in next lp (ch11, sc in next lp) 6 times,sc in next lp (ch11, sc in next lp) 6 times, sc in next lp (ch11, sc in next lp) 6 times, *ch1, tr in next 2 tr, ch1, sc in next lp (ch11, sc in next lp) 4times. rep from *rnd, work over corners as before end w/ch1, tr in last tr, slst in 4th st of ch5

  • rnd 5: sl st to ctr of next ch11 lp, sc in same lp *(ch13, sc in next lp) 5 times, sc in next lp. rep from *2 times more, ** (ch13, sc in next lp) 3 times, sc in next lp. rep from * work over corners. join and break off

  • work fill in laces bet motifs and pine. as follows: ch1, tr tr in free lp of motif follow pine, tr tr in next lp, long tr in join, tr tr in next lp on next motif, tr tr in next lp, tr tr at end of 1st row of pine, tr tr at end of next row on same pine, long tr in join, make tr tr at end of 2nd and 1st rows of next pine. sl st in first tr tr. break.fill in rem sps in same way.
