FOR 7 INCH SQUARES OR PANELS (There are 6 patterns in this group)

 

CROCHET STRIPES

Note: If you alternate colors every other row, you don't have to cut the yarn at the end of the row. Instead carry the yarn along the side of your work, and pick it up when you need it. Just remember not to pull it too tightly along the edge. (from the CYCA newsletter Fall 96)

MATERIALS:
Worsted weight yarn, 2 colors (A and B)
Size G crochet hook

With color A, chain 29.

Row 1: With A, Skip 3 chains, 1 dc in next ch and each ch to end. Turn.

Row 2: With B, Ch 1, skip 1 st. * 1 dc in next st, sl st in next st, repeat from * across row ending lst repeat into top of turning chain. Turn.

Row 3: With B, Ch 3 (counts as a dc), * 1 dc into next dc, 1 dc into next sl st. repeat from * across row ending last repeat into turning chain. Turn.

Rows 4 and 5: Using A, Repeat rows 2 and 3.

Repeat rows 2 through 5 until piece measures 9 inches. Finish off.


BASIC SINGLE CROCHET

MATERIALS
Worsted Weight Yarn
Crochet Hook G or size to obtain Gauge.
GAUGE: 9 stitches = 2 inches.

 

Ch 30 for foundation chain.

  • Row 1: Single crochet in 2nd chain from hook, and in every chain in the foundation row. Ch 1. Turn.

  • Row 2: Sc in each st across. Turn. Repeat Row 2 for desired length. Fasten off

    SHELL STITCH

    Ch 31 for foundation chain.

  • Row 1: Work 3 double crochets in 4th chain from hook. *sk 2 chains. Single crochet in next chain. Sk 2 chains, then work 5 double crochets in next chain (Shell made). Repeat from * across. End with sk 2 chains 1 sc in last chain. Ch 3. Turn.

  • Row 2: Work 3 dc in 1st st. *Work 1 sc in the center of shell. Work 1 shell in next sc. Repeat from * across. End with 1 sc in top of turning chain. Ch 3. Turn.

    Repeat Row 2 for desired length. Fasten off.


    FLYING V'S

    Ch 33 for foundation chain.

  • Row 1: In 4th chain from hook, make dc, ch 2, sc. * Skip 2 chains, then work 2 dc, ch 2, sc in next chain. Repeat from * across. End with 1 dc in last chain. Ch 2. Turn.

  • Row 2: *In Ch-2 space, work 2 dc, ch 2, sc. Repeat from * across. End with 1 dc in last chain. Ch 2. Turn.

  • Repeat Row 2 for desired length. Fasten off.

    LITTLE SCALLOPS

    Ch 33 for foundation chain.

  • Row 1: Skip 2 chains. Dc in next chain. *Skip 2 chains. In next chain work 1 sc & 2 dc. Repeat from * across until last 3 chains. Skip 2 chains and sc in last chain. Ch 1, Turn.

  • Row 2: Work 2 dc in first stitch. *Sk 2 dc. Work sc, and 2 dc in next sc. Repeat from * across until last 3 sts. Skip 2 dc. Sc in turning chain. Ch 1. Turn.

  • Repeat Row 2 for desired length. Fasten off.

    ALTERNATING HALF DOUBLE CROCHETS

    Ch 31 for foundation chain.

  • Make a half double crochet (hdc) in 3rd chain from hook and each chain across. Ch 2. Turn.

  • Row 2: Sk 1 st. * Work hdc in back loop of next st. Hdc in front loop of next st. Repeat from * across, ending with hdc worked into the top of the turning chain. Ch 2. Turn.

  • Repeat Row 2 for desired length. Fasten off.
